Meet the Team
Pure Balance is made up of instructors and team members with different backgrounds, personalities, and approaches to movement—but a shared commitment to helping you feel welcomed, supported, and connected.
Ali Hall
Ali is a Pilates instructor, dancer, movement educator, and the founder of Pure Balance. She opened the studio in 2018, after seeing a need for a Pilates studio that offered thoughtful, high-quality movement in a safe and inclusive environment. Since then, she has intentionally shaped Pure Balance into a community rooted in curiosity, compassion, connection, and the belief that every body deserves to feel welcomed and well-met in movement.
Her teaching style reflects that same philosophy. With a deep understanding of the body and an endless curiosity about how and why we move, Ali’s classes blend thoughtful, purposeful movement with creativity, curiosity, and play. She loves helping clients understand the why behind what they’re doing and finding just the right amount of challenge to leave them feeling well-met, capable, and connected.
Ali’s relationship with movement began long before she opened Pure Balance. A lifelong dancer, she first discovered Pilates in high school while searching for a way to support her own body through persistent injuries and chronic pain. Within about a month of beginning Pilates, the back pain she had dealt with for years had almost completely disappeared. She felt stronger, moved better in her dancing, and quickly fell deeply in love with the practice.
But it wasn’t just how Pilates made her feel that fascinated her. Ali wanted to understand why it worked. She became endlessly curious about the human body, how we move, and the ways seemingly separate parts of us are actually deeply interconnected. That curiosity still drives her teaching today. (Just ask her about biotensegrity—she would LOVE to tell you all about it.)
After studying Exercise Science at the University of Georgia, Ali completed Polestar Pilates’ Comprehensive Instructor Training program, where she studied under Karyn Staples, P.T., Ph.D. Now with more than 5,000 hours of teaching experience, her approach draws from rehabilitative and classical Pilates, contemporary movement, dance, and somatic practices. She loves honoring the foundations of the Pilates method while finding creative, intentional ways to help clients better understand their own bodies.
Ali has a particular interest in working with clients navigating chronic pain, hypermobility, injuries, and bodies that don’t always follow the textbook. That work is deeply informed by her own lived experience with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and endometriosis, as well as a severe ankle injury in 2018 that led to three major surgeries and lasting changes in the way her own body moves.
She knows what it’s like to have a complicated relationship with your body—to feel limited by it, frustrated with it, or unsure whether you can trust it. That perspective has deeply shaped the way she teaches.
Ali wants the people she works with to feel well-met: challenged, but successful; supported, but never underestimated. Rather than chasing perfect movement or prescribing one “right” way to do something, she pays close attention to the person in front of her and helps them find the version of movement that works for their body.
Her teaching emphasizes curiosity over perfection, personalized feedback, and mindful, embodied movement that honors both the science and soul of the work.
In 2023, Ali began developing Pure Balance’s Instructor Training Program after recognizing a need in the Pilates industry for education that is truly size-inclusive, trauma-informed, and practical. Her mission is to train teachers who are not only well-versed in the Pilates repertoire and movement science, but who also know how to teach—meeting the human being in front of them with skill, sensitivity, curiosity, and integrity.
Rooted in the Pilates method but never afraid to play, Ali’s classes combine precision and purposeful sequencing with creativity and exploration. She wants class to feel like a place where you can work hard, ask questions, experiment, laugh, modify, and occasionally surprise yourself.
She loves helping clients understand the why behind what they’re doing, offering personalized feedback, and finding just the right amount of challenge for the person in front of her. Expect thoughtful challenges, creative movement, and plenty of encouragement to get curious rather than get it “perfect.”
You might shake, laugh, learn something new about your body, or hear Ali get way too excited about fascia—but if you leave feeling challenged yet successful, a little more capable, and a little more at home in your body, she considers that a pretty great class.
Meet Our Instructors
Corrin Pierce
Corrin brings deep knowledge of anatomy and movement into the studio without ever making it feel like a lecture. Her classes blend thoughtful strength and mobility work with creative movement, plenty of options, and a healthy dose of humor—helping clients understand their bodies while discovering just how capable they can be.
Corrin is a Pilates instructor, trainer, mobility coach, and self-proclaimed anatomy nerd with a background in dance, massage therapy, strength training, and movement. Across all of those disciplines, one idea has remained at the center of her work: helping people move and feel better so they can keep doing the things that matter to them.
Her extensive understanding of anatomy shows up throughout her teaching, but always in an approachable way. Corrin loves helping clients understand the “why” behind what they’re doing, identify movement patterns, and explore different strategies for building strength and mobility. Expect plenty of layers and options in her classes so you can find the version that makes sense for your body that day.
As one of Pure Balance’s most experienced instructors, Corrin co-teaches our Instructor Training Program, sharing her knowledge of anatomy, movement, and the art of teaching with future Pilates instructors.
Her classes are thoughtful and challenging without taking themselves too seriously. You might leave with a new understanding of your hips, a muscle you didn’t know existed, or a particularly satisfying soreness—but chances are, you’ll laugh somewhere along the way.
Michelle Arington
Michelle brings a grounding, nurturing presence to the studio, creating classes that feel equal parts movement practice and meditation. Drawing from her extensive background in Pilates, yoga therapy, breathwork, and holistic wellness, she creates thoughtful, flowing classes where clients feel safe and supported—while still finding plenty of opportunities to challenge themselves.
Michelle brings decades of study across movement, wellness, and mind-body practices to her teaching. She is a trauma-informed Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT), National Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC), personal trainer and Corrective Exercise Specialist, Yamuna Body Rolling Practitioner and Teacher Trainer, and Balanced Body-trained Pilates instructor.
Her background in yoga and dance deeply influences the way she teaches Pilates. Michelle weaves breath, mindfulness, and intentional transitions throughout her classes, creating a sense of flow that encourages clients to connect more deeply with both their movement and themselves.
She believes challenge and compassion can coexist. You’ll often hear Michelle offer ways to add a little more or a little less depending on what your body needs that day. Her clear instruction and calm presence create space to explore without pressure, while her deep knowledge of the body allows her to layer in challenges that can be surprisingly spicy (as she says).
Clients often describe Michelle’s classes as peaceful, supportive, and almost meditative. Just don’t mistake peaceful for easy—you may find yourself feeling muscles you forgot about the next morning.
Lisa Yaconelli
Lisa brings decades of experience in movement and dance to her teaching, along with a deep foundation in the classical Pilates method. Her calm, positive presence and thoughtful attention to detail create classes that flow seamlessly while giving clients space to explore, build confidence, and find the right level of challenge for their bodies.
Movement has been a through-line throughout Lisa’s life. She earned her BFA in Modern Dance from Temple University and has spent more than twenty years performing, teaching, and creating dance in Athens. She completed her comprehensive Pilates training through The Pilates Center in Boulder, Colorado, a program deeply rooted in the classical Pilates method, and has continued expanding her education through contemporary Pilates training at Pure Balance.
Lisa loves the mindfulness of Pilates and the strength and confidence that can develop through a consistent practice. Her classical foundation gives her a keen eye for alignment, precision, and the details that make movement feel more connected, while her years as a dancer and teacher bring an intuitive sense of rhythm and flow to her classes.
She has experience working with older teens, clients with Parkinson’s, hip and low-back concerns, and people who are completely new to the Reformer and want a little extra support as they build confidence.
Lisa teaches with a quiet confidence that immediately puts people at ease. Her classes are organized, intentional, and wonderfully smooth, with clear instruction and plenty of options to explore more or less challenge. She has a knack for noticing exactly what’s happening in the room and offering the right cue or adjustment without interrupting the flow. And while her calm, almost meditative delivery might have you thinking you're in for an easy class, don’t be surprised when she quietly sneaks in a challenge—or catches you off guard with her perfectly timed sense of humor.
Chamberlain Smith
Chamberlain brings a calm, relaxed energy to her classes alongside a wonderfully creative approach to movement. Known for thoughtful sequencing and a natural sense of flow, she builds classes that feel fresh and engaging while offering plenty of opportunities to explore challenge, modify, and find what works for your body.
Chamberlain’s Pure Balance story started on the other side of the Reformer. She first came to the studio as a client in 2023, initially drawn to Pilates because of her background in dance. She quickly fell in love with the low-impact approach to movement—and with the community she found here.
That experience eventually inspired her to deepen her practice and become a teacher herself. Chamberlain completed Pure Balance’s Mat + Reformer Instructor Training Program in 2024 and has continued expanding her movement education with Barre Above training.
Her dance background shines through in the way she puts a class together. Chamberlain has a natural sense of pacing and momentum, creatively weaving exercises and props together so that movement feels connected rather than like a collection of separate exercises. She loves building a full-body experience and finding ways to introduce something a little unexpected while still making class feel approachable.
Chamberlain’s classes are relaxed and welcoming, but there’s plenty of challenge waiting for you. She offers options to dial things up or down depending on how your body feels that day, with clear cues that help you move with confidence along the way. Expect creative combinations, satisfying flow, and maybe something you haven’t tried before—all with the goal of leaving class feeling proud of what you did and a little more at ease in your body.
Lisa Williamson
With more than 15 years of experience teaching Pilates, Lisa brings an incredible depth of knowledge to the studio—and a warmth that makes it all feel approachable. Her classes blend evidence-based movement and athletic principles with mindful, intentional teaching to help clients build strength, stability, body awareness, and confidence that extend far beyond the studio.
Movement, education, and well-being have been at the center of Lisa’s career for more than 15 years. An All-American track and field athlete with degrees in Exercise Science and Sport Management, Lisa began teaching Pilates in 2009 and has since built an extensive career across Pilates, personal training, group fitness, coaching, and wellness education.
Lisa is a National Board-Certified Health & Well-Being Coach (NBC-HWC), Cancer Exercise Specialist, certified personal trainer, and group fitness instructor. Outside of Pure Balance, she serves as the Associate Director for Well-Being and Student Engagement at the University of Georgia, where she leads programs supporting individual and community well-being. She also teaches in UGA’s Departments of Dance and Kinesiology, helping students explore the connections between movement, health, and performance.
All of that experience informs the way Lisa approaches Pilates. Her classes emphasize quality movement, mindful alignment, and functional strength, with thoughtful options that honor the individual needs of the people in front of her. She loves helping clients build strength and resilience that translate into everyday life—not simply accomplishing an exercise for the sake of accomplishing it.
But don’t let the résumé fool you: Lisa is as genuine and down-to-earth as she is knowledgeable. She has a gift for explaining movement in ways that make sense, encouraging you through a challenge, and making you laugh somewhere along the way. Her classes are welcoming and accessible, but she certainly knows how to make a little resistance go a long way—your hips and glutes may have some thoughts about that single yellow spring tomorrow.
Kate Lamb
Kate brings together three things she loves most: movement, creativity, and teaching. With a background in ballet and a natural gift for encouraging others, she creates thoughtful classes that invite clients to challenge themselves, explore something new, and leave feeling empowered and proud of what they accomplished.
A lifelong dancer, Kate’s first connection to Pilates grew naturally from her ballet background and her love of intentional movement. After discovering Pure Balance, she decided to take that interest further and completed Pure Balance’s Mat + Reformer Instructor Training Program in 2024.
Teaching has always been an important part of Kate’s life. A UGA graduate originally from Statesboro, Georgia, she loved Athens enough to stick around and now works as an elementary school teacher in Clarke County. Teaching Pilates gives her another way to combine her love of helping others learn with movement as a creative outlet.
That educator’s instinct shows up naturally in her classes. Kate offers clear instruction, thoughtful alternatives, and encouragement that helps clients feel supported while still inviting them to try something that might be a little outside their comfort zone. She wants challenge to feel empowering rather than intimidating, giving you room to explore what you’re capable of without pressure to get everything “right.”
Kate’s confidence and creativity continue to shine brighter with every class she teaches. Expect thoughtful programming, satisfying flow, plenty of encouragement, and maybe a new exercise or two that makes you think, “Wait...we’re doing WHAT?” She’ll be right there cheering you on—and chances are, you’ll leave feeling pretty proud that you did it.
Melynda McCutcheon
Melynda brings warmth, joy, and a deeply embodied approach to every class she teaches. Drawing from more than 15 years of experience in yoga, yoga therapy, somatics, and other mind-body practices, she blends thoughtful, creative movement with genuine connection—creating classes that invite you to feel strong, present, and fully at home in your body.
Melynda has spent more than 15 years exploring the connection between movement, the body, and our overall well-being. A 500-hour yoga instructor and Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapist, her training also includes somatic yoga and life coaching, Reiki, fascia work, breathwork, and therapeutic assists.
Her path to Pilates began through her own injury recovery, when she experienced firsthand how intentional movement could support not only physical strength, but a deeper sense of connection with her body. She went on to complete Pure Balance’s Mat + Reformer Instructor Training Program in 2024, bringing her extensive background in yoga and somatic practices into the way she approaches Pilates.
Melynda sees movement as an opportunity to become more present and embodied—not something to simply power through or check off a list. She thoughtfully weaves breath, body awareness, and creativity into her classes while encouraging clients to listen inward and explore what they need. Her holistic perspective brings depth to her teaching without losing sight of the fact that movement can—and should—feel joyful.
And joyful is exactly what you can expect from Melynda. Her classes are creative, engaging, and full of positive energy, with plenty of challenge and something a little different each time. She has a gift for connecting with the people in the room and making everyone feel genuinely welcomed and excited to move. Come ready to work, breathe, laugh, and be surprised by what she has planned—you’ll probably leave with a smile on your face and a little more sunshine in your day.
Ginny Simmons
Ginny believes movement should leave room for a little fun. With an energetic teaching style, a playful spirit, and plenty of genuine encouragement, she creates classes where clients feel comfortable trying new things, working hard, and laughing along the way. Her goal is for you to leave feeling challenged, supported, and a little lighter than when you walked in.
Ginny first fell in love with Pilates through its ability to build a deeper awareness of the connection between mind and body. With a background in theatre and dance performance, movement has long been a part of her life—but Pilates offered a new way to explore strength, awareness, and feeling more connected to her body.
She began studying Pilates with Pure Balance in 2024 and went on to complete Pure Balance’s Mat + Reformer Instructor Training Program. Her background as a performer naturally finds its way into her teaching: Ginny brings energy, personality, and a sense of play into the room and loves when clients engage with her and become part of the class experience.
For Ginny, though, fun and challenge aren't opposites. She loves creating classes that make you smile while still giving you plenty to work with, whether that means trying something new, finding your shake, or discovering that you’re capable of a little more than you expected. She’s especially thoughtful about helping newer clients feel comfortable, offering explanations and options so everyone can find an appropriate challenge without feeling left behind.
Expect encouragement, laughter, a satisfying amount of work, and a teacher who is genuinely rooting for you. Ginny has a knack for reminding you that you don’t have to take yourself too seriously to do something meaningful—and if you leave class smiling, a little sweaty, and feeling proud of yourself, she’s done her job.
Deirdre Sugiuchi
Deirdre brings a genuine curiosity and enthusiasm for Pilates to every class she teaches. She loves digging deeper into the method, sharing what she’s been researching, and helping clients build confidence as they explore the Reformer. Her upbeat energy and encouraging approach invite clients to get curious, ask questions, and discover more about Pilates along the way.
Deirdre is a Pilates instructor, fitness coach, writer, and longtime educator. After nearly two decades working as a public school librarian, teaching and learning are deeply woven into who she is—and that curiosity naturally finds its way into her Pilates practice.
Her own path to teaching began after an injury led her back to movement and inspired her to explore Pilates more deeply. She completed Pure Balance’s Instructor Training Program in 2025 and has continued immersing herself in the method ever since, from exploring its history and traditions to finding new ways to understand movement in her own body and help others do the same.
Deirdre especially enjoys helping clients become more comfortable and confident on the Reformer. She’s happy to demonstrate a movement, talk through what you’re working toward, and encourage you as your practice grows. Some of her most rewarding teaching moments are watching someone who once felt brand new begin to trust themselves—and maybe even realize they’re ready to take that next step.
Expect an upbeat class, plenty of encouragement, and an instructor whose enthusiasm for Pilates is easy to see. Deirdre approaches the work with the spirit of a lifelong student: curious, engaged, and always excited to discover something new—and she loves inviting the people in her classes along for the ride.
The Friendly Faces Behind the Desk
Our front desk team helps keep the studio running, answers your questions, celebrates your wins, and makes sure there’s a friendly face waiting when you walk through the door.
Sara Tidwell
Sara first found Pure Balance when a friend invited her to try a class on a whim—and what started as trying something new quickly became a community she wanted to be part of. As someone who never considered herself particularly good at “working out,” she connected with Pure Balance’s approach to mindful movement, body acceptance, and finding ways to move that actually feel good.
Now you’ll find Sara on the other side of the front desk, helping others feel just as welcomed as she did when she first walked through the door. Whether you have a question, need help figuring out where to start, or just want a familiar face when you arrive, she’s happy to help make the studio feel a little easier to navigate.
Kat Macias
A community-builder at heart, Kat first found Pure Balance while searching for a way to experience joyful movement outside of diet culture. What kept them coming back was the encouragement, laughter, and a community where people of different ages, bodies, and abilities could move alongside one another.
Now, Kat loves helping create that same sense of belonging for everyone who walks through the door. You’ll find them behind the desk most mornings, ready to answer questions, help solve a problem, celebrate your latest Pilates win, or simply make the start of your day a little brighter. For Kat, the relationships built at Pure Balance are just as meaningful as the movement—and they’re truly delighted to be part of both.
Ellen Ziesenhene
Ellen first came to Pure Balance as a client in February 2025 and quickly found more than a new way to move. The combination of Pilates, a supportive community, and a space where she could feel good in her body brought a sense of peace and strength that soon became an important part of her overall well-being.
Now, as part of the front desk team, Ellen gets to be part of creating the community that made such an impression on her when she first arrived. She loves being one of the friendly faces welcoming you into the studio and helping make Pure Balance a place where you can settle in, feel supported, and enjoy being here.
